Early Puppy Socialization

One of the things we are proud about is that our brittany puppies are extremely well socialized. They are handled daily from their first hours of life and this makes a big difference. A well socialized puppy is a puppy that is ready for anything. By the time our puppies go home at 7-8 weeks old they have been introduced to many new things. We take them on walks, they meet horses, cats, other dogs, people, mud, water, birds, noises, bugs, bikes, etc… We take them for rides in the car. We get them used to a collar and a leash, loading into a dog crate. More time with kids and meeting strangers, playing with them and retrieving toys. The results? Hunter goes home to Alberta, Canada

You just never know where Annabella Brittany puppies are going to end up. Hunter was the only male in a litter between Buster and Sadie. He has found an excellent home in Canada with a lot of room to roam. I took a little road trip to meet the new owners in Idaho for the exchange. We are always so happy to find just the perfect homes for our brittany puppies. A short note from his new family.

“Hunter is already twice the size he was when i picked him up, he grows fast. He got his shots up dated yesterday and did not care much for it. Thank you again for him we all just love him to death. My husband Karl started running with him, he has a ton of energy. He already runs about 8 kms before he starts to tucker out. Thanks again we will send you some more pictures again if you like.”

Puppy Introduction to Birds

This is just one of my favorite phases of training a bird dog. The bird introduction is so important in getting a young puppy excited about birds and hunting. It is a pure joy to see the light come on as you put the first feathers in front of them. They catch on real fast that birds are wonderful and very tasty. I like to use a small quail in the beginning. If using a live bird be sure to hold the wings securely. You can use a wing as well to get them used to the smell. It doesn’t take long before they want to mouth it and hold it. Then before you know it they are retrieving pigeons.

One Happy Puppy in Nevada

We got this photo emailed to us from Bailey in Nevada. He bought an Annie X Buster puppy earlier this year. This fine hunting brittany they named Boone. Bailey has done a great job with getting Boone onto some birds. The photo is after a very successful Nevada chukar hunt. Nothing can bring a bird dog along faster than lots of wild bird exposure. Thanks for emailing the pics. Keep up the good work.

Brittany Puppies and Pumpkins

Our latest litter of brittany puppies are getting to that fun stage around 4 weeks old. They are starting to romp and play and their little personalities are beginning to blossom. We have two liver and white puppies available from this litter, one male and one female. Should be excellent foot hunting dogs as well as family companions. They are getting plenty of socialization from my seven children. Feel free to email or call us if you are interested.

Annie X Buster Puppies Expected

We are expecting an excellent foot hunting litter of brittany puppies around April 19th. Annie has been bred to Buster and we are expecting white/liver and white/orange brittany pups. Annie and Buster have been my number one guide dogs these past few years at the pheasant farm. They both have a good nose and have pointed and retrieved hundreds of pheasants. Buster is DNA certified and comes from Dave Walker kennels in Idaho. Annie has been with our family for 5 years and has a sweet temperment. Email us if you are interested in a great hunting companion. You can place a deposit to hold your pick for $200. One male is still with us and entering his bird dog training for fall pheasant season.

Puppies Going Home

It is always fun to send our Brittany puppies home to their new families. We were proud to send this little female orange roan puppy to live with Steve in Wyoming. All of our Sue X Luke puppies are in their new homes now. The lone male a liver roan puppy went to Colorado. The white and liver female we called Mildred went to Wayne in Arizona. The other liver roan pup, a female, went home to San Diego. We decided to keep this white and orange female we are calling Minnie. She will be a part of our future and a guide dog on our pheasant preserve.

Merry Christmas Puppies

Miracle got a new hat from my daughter Hannah who is learning how to knit. She thought it was a little small, or is it that the puppies are growing up so fast. Miracle can’t wait to go to her new home in Wyoming. All the pups are eating solids and are scheduled for their first round of shot on January 7th. One of the fun things with the holiday season and puppies is all the extra socialization from visiting family and friends.

The puppies finally arrived on Friday November 19th. There were 5 healthy puppies born and only one male. Two of the females are white/orange while the other two female brittany pups are liver and white. Currently we have only one white/orange female available. The first puppy opened her eyes today at 10 days old, a liver/white puppy we call May.
